Tampere – April 10, 2013 – TeamUp, a Tampere based start-up developing a social media community where athletes, musicians and artists can be supported by fans and business sponsors, announced today it has been selected among Europe’s Top 100 companies. This is a prestigious award for companies evaluated and judged by Red Herring to be the most promising in Europe.
“The event was amazing and the competition tough,” said Donna Kivirauma, CEO and Co-founder of TeamUp. “You never know how things will go when 240 companies are selected as finalists, and only 100 can make the list. I credit our amazing team who brought the idea to life, the technology choices of our CTO and Co-Owner, Pekka Martikainen, the amazing concepting of our COO and Co-Founder, Kimmo Kivirauma, and all of the talents and early businesses that believed in us,” continued Donna.
Funding a start-up is high on the list when analysts are considering the strength of a company. TeamUp has received generous funding from Tekes and Ely, as well as an award from AppCampus, a joint program between Aalto University, Microsoft and Nokia set up to foster Windows Phone app developers. Being funded by AppCampus has enabled TeamUp to begin to develop a Windows Phone app to enhance the experience of the user.
“We at AppCampus are looking for innovative, first-to-market app ideas. TeamUp’s idea is a good example of the kind of innovation and aspiration we like to support and invite to the program. In addition to the award, TeamUp will be invited to AppCampus’ four-week intensive coaching camp AppCademy, where the teams will receive comprehensive training and coaching in design, marketing, branding, pitching and much more,” says Pekka Sivonen, Head of AppCampus. “We believe that TeamUp’s app will become a great success, and we’re happy to stand behind start-ups like this.”
“The days ahead are going to be full of excitement and very hard work for us TeamUppers. This award is an honor, and now we continue promoting and developing our community,” added Donna. TeamUp will be celebrating their win on Friday evening, April 12, at their office with invited guests and media in attendance. Some talents of the soon-to-be-launched TeamUp community will be on hand to entertain the guests.
